If these states (Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and Maryland) secede, than the Union will be lost for sure.
#ANACONDA PLAN CIVIL WAR HOW TO#
Other important question today is how to keep the border states from leaving the Union. He will be leaving in a month, and I do not know how to deal with it anyway but support him. How could I say no to him wanting to protect the Union and the cause we have worked so hard to endorse? I could not. Thomas has decided to volunteer himself, and he talked to me the other day. The two strategies are extremely different from what I have collected, but I am hoping that the North is right in saying that it will be a quick war. I am hopeful that this is not just a tall-tale being told by someone who wants a little fame, because it sounds like it might have a chance of working.

Next, the Union wants to send forces along the Mississippi River to literally split the Confederate states in two parts. No food or supplies could get in, or get out. First, the navy would block the southern ports from the outside world, which would cause the South to suffer economically. It is called the Anaconda Plan because it snakes along the South, similar to an Anaconda. I am quite excited about it, but I am not sure if I should publish it because it may expose something that the Union needs as a secret.

General Winfield Scott made a two part plan that I had someone come forward and share about this morning.

On the other hand, the Northerners are really hoping to end this war quickly and efficiently. I don’t understand why the Europeans would help out the South, because they are so against slavery, but maybe the Confederates know something we don’t.Ī political cartoon showing the Anaconda Plan and also the problems with the border states. They thought that because the Europeans were already so dependent upon cotton, they might provide aid to the South to continue the cotton production. It makes sense because with ties cut from the North, they need someone to continue buying their cotton. I also gained the knowledge that the South is trying to get in the good graces of Britain and France. They will just wait this one out, according to my sources. The South wants to hold on to its small army while destroying enough of the Union’s to bleed them out. The Confederate forces are really expecting a long war, so they have seemingly prepared for that. Here is what I have discovered from multiple anonymous sources about possible strategies from each side.Ĭoncerning the Confederacy, there are two main components. We would be the only paper with a story on the inside scoop of the war, so that would get us more business. It has been difficult to find stories on strategies and plans for the War, but I sent out an advertisement in the paper yesterday for any leads or ideas people may have about any battle plans. The people are looking for anything they can to read up on the War and what is in store, so my boss thought this would be a good column idea. At the paper, I have been in charge of sorting a column including strategies that each side of the battlefield may be using.
